The growing Quantify open source community celebrates 5 years of quantum R&D

Quantify turns 5! Started by Qblox and OrangeQS in 2020, Quantify has grown into a quantum R&D focused open source community. Time to celebrate highlights of the past year, like the release of a LabOne Q back-end for Quantify, and look forward to new releases in 2025.

 

Quantify is an open source, Python-based, high-level data acquisition framework for quantum-computing and solid-state physics experiments. It is developed together with a growing international community of scientists and engineers, and is built on top of QCoDeS for handling various instruments. The framework consists of quantify-core and quantify-scheduler.

 

  • Quantify-core enables users to quickly set up experiments while taking care of practical aspects such as data storagelive plotting of experiments, monitoring the state of instruments, and data analysis.
  • Quantify-scheduler provides a unique hybrid gate-pulse control model with explicit timing control, allowing users to easily express complex quantum experiments.

 

Quantify is being used in quantum R&D labs all over the world for many different purposes. Think about solid-state physics experiments in academia or an essential layer in a full-stack quantum system. The Quantify software-for-users Slack channel has well over 300 users, involving companies, academic labs and national labs, setting standards, creating issues and prioritizing new features together.

 

The call by the quantum R&D community for open-source tools is louder than ever. Combined with a growing Quantify user base, it becomes more attractive for equipment providers to make their products compatible with Quantify. For example, a LabOne Q back-end for Quantify was added, co-developed by Zurich Instruments and OrangeQS within the OpenSuperQPlus project. This makes Quantify compatible with Zurich Instruments solutions and allows LabOne Q users to use their preferred interface, while benefiting from new Quantify functionality.

 

The fifth year of Quantify will become even more exciting soon! Keep an eye out for a new back-end being released in beta version soon by Intermodulation Products. You can also look forward to a beta version release of the long-awaited Quantify v1.0.
