We congratulate our advisor Dr. Jan van Schoot on becoming a Fellow at ASML. He is an authority on imaging and one of the key innovators behind the anamorphic design in High NA EUV Lithography.

Dr. Jan van Schoot has worked at ASML since 1996. After leading the Optical Column of the EUV product line for almost 15 years, he became Director of System Engineering in 2021 and continues in the role of Sr System Engineer. In 2024, ASML has recognized Jan with a Fellowship. Over almost 30 years at the company, 90 US patents (granted and pending) were filed in his name. We can only imagine how influential he will be in the decades to come.
Jan has built up a great expertise in imaging and has significantly contributed to both ASML and the broader semiconductor field. He’s known for his precision and ability to design complex optical systems, where he brings a level of detail that ensures these systems work effectively in practice. Jan’s work spans projection and illumination optics, and he is recognized as a pioneer of anamorphic design in High NA EUV Lithography.
On his Fellow profile, Jan states:
“I try to think like a customer: what do they need and why? Think positively: Be aware of the challenges but focus on what you want to achieve. This gives you the motivation to push through.”
The success of ASML is built on technology leadership. With the title of ‘Fellow’, they honor the technical experts that ensure this. These Fellows have made an outstanding technical contribution to ASML and are recognized both inside and outside the company as a top technical authority. They have usually generated a significant amount of intellectual property and have a long list of patents and technical publications.
