Netherlands and Japan Strengthen Collaboration in Quantum Technology

16-09-2026

Last week, Dutch Minister of Economic Affairs and Climate Heleen Herbert and Japanese Minister Kimi Onoda signed a Memorandum of Collaboration following a visit by a Japanese delegation to TU Delft. The delegation visited Delft to learn more about the pioneering quantum research and concluded its programme with a tour of the HoQ, the national hub where researchers, businesses, and start-ups collaborate on the development and application of quantum technology.

During the visit to HoQ in Delft, Adriaan Rol and Garrelt Alberts, co-founders of OrangeQS, introduced the delegation to our quantum chip testing solutions. The Japanese delegation got a tour of the newly upgraded OrangeQS Lab, where components for the OrangeQS FLEX and OrangeQS MAX systems are developed and tested

After the ecosystem visit in Delft, the Japanese delegation continued to The Hague for the signing of the Memorandum of Collaboration between Ministers Herbert and Minister Onoda. The agreement marks a further step in strengthening cooperation between the Netherlands and Japan in the field of quantum technology. It focuses on knowledge exchange, talent development, and the joint development and application of new quantum technologies. Through this collaboration, both countries aim to accelerate research and innovation while contributing to a strong international quantum ecosystem.

In addition, Minister Herbert and Minister Onoda discussed broader cooperation in science, technology, and innovation, as well as economic security. As geopolitical developments continue to create new challenges for economies and emerging technologies, collaboration between like-minded partners remains essential for advancing innovation and strengthening economic resilience.
