We’re ending a year full of growth for our company and for the quantum industry as a whole. The biggest highlight for OrangeQS was the launch of the OrangeQS MAX. The excitement was high during the physical launch event at our Production facility, but also on the main stage at Q2B24 in Silicon Valley.
Before we start 2025, the year of quantum, let’s take a moment to review 2024. The quantum industry made huge progress towards useful quantum computers. We highlight some of the major announcements by IBM Quantum, Google Quantum AI and IQM, as well as positive signals from Imec and Quantonation. We can also be proud of the growth at OrangeQS, with significant expansion of our team, facilities and product portfolio to deliver testing solutions to academia and industry.

Looking back at 2024, we see a step change for OrangeQS. We started the year by announcing that we sold the OrangeQS MAX, the world’s first utility-scale quantum chip test equipment. To build, test and deliver the OrangeQS MAX and OrangeQS FLEX systems, Innovation Quarter joined as a new investor and we expanded our facilities with Production 1 and Production 2. Among many other activities, we started exciting new projects with the TU Delft, like HectoQubit/2 and QuKiT and delivered testing solutions to Uni Napoli, Aalto University, Karlsruhe Institute of Technology and FAU Erlangen.

The past two months might have been the most exciting for our team. We organized a physical launch event for the OrangeQS MAX in Delft, where Juha Hassel (VP Quantum Technologies at IQM) announced IQM as the launching customer. Since this is not only a step forward for Europe, but also for the global quantum industry, we announced the OrangeQS MAX at the Q2B24 conference in Silicon Valley as well. Co-founder Adriaan Rol got a moment on the Q2B24 main stage to share our vision for the OrangeQS MAX, as well as our yearly review of the state-of-the-art of quantum chips.

To illustrate the immense progress made by the quantum industry and ecosystem in 2024, we highlight a few announcements by IBM Quantum, IQM, Google Quantum AI, Imec and Quantonation:
- IBM Quantum created a quantum error-correcting code about 10 times more efficient than prior methods. (Read paper on nature.com) Recently, IBM ran a 100 x 100 circuit with 5,000+ two-qubit gates on 156 qubit Heron R2 chip. (Read announcement on ibm.com)
- IQM announced the benchmarking results of their 20 qubit chip, advancing the Quantum Processing Units (QPUs) fabrication in their own premises (Read press release on meetiqm.com). They also announced plans to build Europe’s first high-throughput production unit for large-scale quantum processors in France, complementing their existing facility in Espoo, Finland. - Google Quantum AI demonstrated error correction below surface code threshold. (Read paper on arxiv.org) At Q2B SV they launched the 105 qubit chip Willow with T1 times approaching 100 µs. (Read blog post on blog.google)
- Imec used fab-compatible processes to produce quantum chips with industry standard quality. (Read paperon nature.com)
- Quantonation announced the first closing of their second fund at 70 M€ of the targeted 200 M€ volume. The US/France based company focusses entirely on early-stage startups on a broad set of quantum technologies. (Read press release on quantonation.com)
