OrangeQS Juice deployed at Chalmers Next Labs

We are thrilled to announce that OrangeQS Juice has been officially deployed at Chalmers Next Labs (CNL) in Sweden. A member of our support team recently visited the lab to assist with the system’s setup and deployment. 

The CNL System Engineer and the OrangeQS Support Engineer in front of the Juice Box, installed in the WACQT Quantum Technology Testbed facility. The Juice Box runs OrangeQS Juice, an open-source OS for quantum R&D labs, as well as deploying SCQT, GRACE and a new dilution refrigerator backend for Juice.

 

About Chalmers Next Labs 

Chalmers Next Labs (CNL) has the mission to make research results, cutting-edge expertise and technical infrastructure from Chalmers University of Technology available to industry and society. By connecting Chalmers’ world-leading research with the needs of industry and society, they accelerate technological development in Sweden and the world. 

The WACQT Quantum Technology Testbed facility, operated by CNL, is designed to assist with the development and testing of quantum algorithms and hardware. It provides critical infrastructure and resources for companies and researchers in Sweden. OrangeQS Juice will be part of this testbed facility, contributing to the ecosystem with its open-source operating system tailored for quantum R&D. The testbed is accessible to both Swedish industry and academia, with external users able to book time to utilize its resources.  

About OrangeQS Juice 

OrangeQS Juice is a Linux-based, open-source operating system specifically designed for quantum research and development labs. Juice runs a JupyterHub instance on the lab’s control computer, providing access to multiple shared Python kernels for collaborative work and experiment management. 

Juice was developed as an operating system for the high-throughput OrangeQS MAX quantum chip test equipment. It is now an essential building block of our OrangeQS FLEX systems for quantum R&D labs. 

Next to CNL, Juice will be deployed at AQT Berkeley, QuTech and University of Cologne during a closed beta phase, preparing for OrangeQS Juice to be open-sourced in early 2026. 

Juice at CNL 

We deployed Juice at CNL on a Juice Box, a rack-mounted lab PC. That gave us the opportunity to also deploy our proprietary Superconducting Qubit Tools (SCQT) and Graph-Based Calibration Execution (GRACE). We also deployed our newly developed Bluefors backend for Juice, allowing the testbed users to monitor and control the dilution refrigerator from the same environment their physics experiments. We look forward to hearing how CNL and their customers make use of these flexible tools for quantum R&D. 

Although the framework is still in a beta testing phase, it is already in a useful state. Below are two screenshots taken during the installation, showing the Graph Monitor, Instrument Monitor, System Monitor in use.
