Last week QuTech hosted the RVO, The Netherlands Enterprise Agency, including RVO director Abdeluheb Choho. We shared with the RVO delegation how OrangeQS builds test equipment for quantum chips and what our role is in several projects in the world-leading Delft quantum ecosystem.

We’re proud to have had the opportunity to explain to a delegation of RVO, including director Abdeluheb Choho, what OrangeQS does and what our role is within the innovative and world leading Delft Quantum ecosystem.
The RVO supports enterprises in The Netherlands. They are essential for Dutch companies working on innovative and technically challenging products, especially startups, including in the Dutch quantum ecosystem. On the European and global level, RVO plays an important role in the Eureka network and Eurostars, both programs stimulating international market-oriented R&D. Funding by RVO has unequivocally strengthened the global quantum ecosystem.
At OrangeQS, we build high-throughput test equipment for quantum chips and other quantum devices critical in quantum computing. These are among the world’s largest and most complex quantum systems. We’re capable of building these instruments, in part thanks to collaborations with local suppliers that develop state-of-art subsystems. With projects, often supported by governmental bodies like RVO, we’re able to jointly push the boundaries of what’s possible in quantum technology.
A few of the success stories in Quantum of projects funded by the RVO (through the MIT R&D program) are:
- Project Quantify, an open-source framework for quantum-computing and solid-state physics experiments developed with Qblox. It has developed into a global open-source community with hundreds of researchers;
- Project Quaracter, where we built a minimal version of our industry-level test equipment together with Leiden Cryogenics and Delft Circuits and which is the basis of Europe’s (soon be finished) largest commercial quantum system.
OrangeQS is currently working on two more MIT R&D projects. In the IQ-TWPA project we work with QuantWare to develop ways of achieving faster characterization of Traveling Wave Parametric Amplifiers. In the DeteQT project we work with QuantaMap on methods of pinpointing defects on quantum devices.
During their visit to QuTech, the Dutch institute for quantum computing and communication, the RVO delegation stopped by the HectoQubit/2 setup. Within this project, QuTech is building a full superconducting quantum computing system that will be made publicly available through QuTech’s Quantum Inspire cloud platform. OrangeQS is a supplier of the HectoQubit/2 consortium, contributing a framework to automate and maintain calibration, as well as device performance monitoring.
