Join the QBN Workshop: Scaling of Quantum Chips in Dresden and follow Dr. Thorsten Last‘s presentation on testing and data management challenges that emerge as the quantum chip industry advances toward larger-scale quantum processor development and production.

About the presentation Quantum computing with circuit-based quantum processors is entering a pivotal phase, transitioning from fundamental research and development to early-stage technology scaling and industrial implementation. This shift is underscored by notable milestones such as IBM Quantum’s announcement of a fault-tolerant quantum computing roadmap targeting 2029 [1]. By then, superconducting quantum processors with 1,000 qubits are anticipated.
Two Key Ingredients for Scaling
At OrangeQS, we have identified two critical and interconnected ingredients for the next phase of scaling circuit-based quantum processors:
- The chiplet as a building block for scaling high-quality quantum processors, fit for non-destructive testing.
- The collection of informative data throughout qubit production and testing, and the availability of this data for optimization of the quantum processor development flow.
Chiplet Qualification and testing
With respect to the first key ingredient, we will show how we work with partners across the quantum chip industry to adapt our MAX product line for non-destructive, automated testing and qualification of chiplets prior to their integration into modular quantum processors [2].
Data-Driven Optimisation
Our MAX product line can also be viewed as a anchor for ensuring that informative data becomes available for closed-loop optimization in emerging industry-grade quantum chip production. This helps identify critical process steps in the production cycle and determine which parameters are most informative for performance prediction [3].

About the QBN Workshop: Scaling of Quantum Chips
The QBN Workshop at Fraunhofer IPMS brings together researchers and industry representatives to discuss the scaling and industrialization of quantum chips. Topics include manufacturing, foundry services, testing, and production strategies, with a focus on enabling the transition from laboratory prototypes to scalable quantum systems. The program combines technical presentations, interactive discussions, and a tour of Fraunhofer IPMS’s facilities, providing opportunities for knowledge exchange and collaboration across the quantum ecosystem.
